First Special Volume of the Metaphor Papers Published: Focus on the Metaphors of Nicholas of Cusa
The first special volume of the working paper series Metaphor Papers, titled “Exploring the Cosmos: Unraveling Cusanus’ Metaphors”, is dedicated to the rich and multifaceted figurative language of Nicholas of Cusa (1401–1464). The articles explore the wide spectrum of his metaphors – ranging from everyday situations and natural phenomena to cosmological and mathematical images – and pay special attention to their often surprising and thought-provoking combinations.
The contributions were originally presented at the workshop “Exploring the Cosmos: Unraveling Cusanus’ Metaphors”, held on June 15–16, 2023, at the Center for Religious Studies, Ruhr University Bochum. The event was organized by Subproject C03 “Metaphors of Everyday Life (Cusanus and Melanchthon)” of the Collaborative Research Center 1475 “Metaphors of Religion.”
