Monday Meeting

Counteracting Unconscious Bias in Academia

GB 5/150–152 “Ruhrpott”

In this short seminar, we will familiarize ourselves with the concept of unconscious bias and its relevance to the academic workplace. Participants will learn about how stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination relate to each other and understand how two modes of processing our environment - ‘fast’ and ‘slow’ thinking – shape our social perceptions and interactions. We will conclude by discussing hands-on measures for the reflection and reduction of bias in the academic workplace.

Katharina Zilles works in the professional department for personnel and talent development at RUB. Her work focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion in research careers.
